What it is
A mode where a question is answered not by a list of links but by an assistant: ChatGPT with search, Gemini, Google AI Overview, Copilot, Perplexity. The assistant takes the answer from a regular search index, so the same pages get in as in search, only later.
How we use it
We prepare pages for such answers: questions and answers in the client's words, prices and timelines in structured data, llms.txt, an About page with facts. Showing up in answers takes 2–8 weeks after indexing, and nothing speeds that up.
Where it matters to a business
- Customers increasingly ask an assistant rather than a search engine: "where can I order a Telegram bot", "how much does a business-card site cost".
- The assistant should name your price and link to you, not retell a competitor.
- Assistants assemble a "company profile", and it has to be right.
Where assistants take their answers from
An assistant does not read your site on its own. It goes to a search engine, reads the top results and retells them:
| Assistant | Where the answers come from |
|---|
| ChatGPT with search, Copilot | the Bing index |
| Gemini, Google AI Overviews | the Google index |
| Perplexity and similar | a mix of Bing and their own crawlers |
So the task is not "upload the site into AI" but getting into the search indexes and being clear there.
How we use it
- We went through it with our own site. The studio website has a sitemap, JSON-LD markup (Organization, FAQPage, DefinedTermSet), files for AI, verification in the webmaster tools, IndexNow on every deploy, and images named after the brand for image search.
- A specialist's business card. Valery Afanasiev's site carries Person markup with services, ProfilePage and FAQPage: the material assistants use to build a profile of a person.
- Prices in words. The price is written on the page, repeated in the markup and in a "how much does it cost" answer: an assistant quotes what it sees explicitly, not "ask our manager".
- A routine for the owner. After setup we leave a short guide on what to press after each site edit, so the owner can carry on alone.
We set up search and AI-assistant visibility under Websites.
Common problems
- It is slow. Our work takes the first few days; the rest is waiting: crawling, indexing, ranking, and only then the assistants. The honest timeline is 2–8 weeks. Anyone promising "three days" is counting only their own part.
- Nothing to quote. If the site has no price, no location and no direct answer to a customer's question, the assistant has nothing to build an answer from.
- A different answer every time. The assistant searches anew for each question, so the link does not show up every time. That is normal.
- Check, do not just wait. After two or three weeks we search for the company by name and ask the assistants. If nothing shows up after two months, look for an error on the site or in the webmaster tools.
When you do not need it
If customers come only through referrals and direct links, and the site is a business card "for credibility", it is too early to invest in assistant visibility. First make sure the site is in good shape in ordinary search.
