What is IndexNow

What it is

A protocol by which a site itself tells search engines "these pages changed" without waiting for a crawl. Supported by Bing (which ChatGPT and Copilot search through), Yandex and others; Google does not support it.

How we use it

Submission is built into the deploy scripts: at the end of every deploy all sitemap addresses go to api.indexnow.org and to Yandex. Nothing to click separately.

Where it helps a business

  • You changed prices or added a service and want search engines to learn about it sooner than they would crawl the site themselves.
  • ChatGPT and Copilot answers come from Bing: the sooner Bing sees a page, the sooner it can be quoted.

How we use it

Submission is built into the deploy scripts: at the end of every deploy all sitemap URLs go to api.indexnow.org. Nothing has to be pressed separately. That is how the studio website works, and Valery Afanasiev's business card also submits the new version of its page to IndexNow after edits.

Common problems

  • Google does not support IndexNow. Important URLs are submitted to Google for recrawl by hand in Search Console, where the quota is about ten URLs a day.
  • Faster, not instant. The protocol announces a change, but crawling, indexing and ranking still follow the search engine's schedule.

When you do not need it

For a site that does not change for months, IndexNow adds little, but it does no harm either, so we connect it by default.
